Solomon's Seal / Polygonatum Officinale (yu ju) 玉竹

NATURE:

Neutral; sweet; attributive to kidneys and spleen.

CHARACTERISTICS:

Root of a perennial herb, yellow or light brown, and can swell three to four times in size when soak in water. It is a superior herb, widely used in tonic for malnutrition, anemia, severe energy depletion, sexual incompetence and infertility.

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:

Nourish stomach and promote the production of body fluid; nourish yin and lung deficiency with dry cough or fever; for dizziness and muscular spasm; heal broken bones; nourish yin. Used for impotence, spermatorrhea, frequent urination, lack of appetite, weak digestion, fatigue due to malnutrition; broken bones; stomach and duodenal ulcers.
